Don’t Take Creativity for Granted...

It was a beautiful and sunny day on Monday, April 23rd. I considered it the first “real” day
of spring. It was about 80 degrees or so, and it was (for me) a perfect day. While working, my partner was commenting on a guy with whom we both happen to work with. “I don’t know what that guy is on but he is always so happy, I wish I could be like that!” I just listened, and as he ran off to retrieve a car, he said to me “I’m supposed to get my car back from the shop today, I guess that’s one thing to be happy about.” That’s when it hit me. Wow. No, really - Wow!

It was such a wonderful day to me, how was he not “seeing” that? Our creativity comes from a variety of sources, but one of the first places it comes from is through our eyes, or more precisely, in how we are “seeing” things. Using a different example than the one above, how is it that one person can see a flower, or even a beautiful mountain range or a beautiful (fill-in the blank) and just keep going past it?! When another person would stop, look, listen or even take a picture (provided a camera was handy).

There are so many things we see and do every day and yet we overlook and lose sight of
the beauty (especially in ourselves) that is there to be found. I know we all live busy lives these days, but why do we have to forget what is right here?! Kahlil Gibran an author/poet said “The subtlest beauty in our lives is often unseen and unheard.” Why? Why do so many of us miss this? To me, it’s a matter of our intentions and where we put our attention. No matter what we are doing or what our purpose is, there is always a beautiful world around us. There are so many things (simple and profound) that we can take a moment (or two) to be thankful for.

But how does this relate to our own creativity? It is in this thankful peace, contentment, excitement, or joy that our “boost” will be found and it will move us from a place of stagnation and blockage to that of “inspiration”again in our own creativity. We are alive every waking minute of everyday. How much “aliveness” you experience while you are there (wherever that is) is up to you... Isn’t it time for a little recreation!?
