GLOSSARY
Direct buy - The retail site handles sales of your uploaded songs, albums, or physical CD's with credit cards, paypal, checks, etc.
Link buy - You put a link (with the retailer's logo or text) on your personal website to your promo or store page of the retailer.
Promo page - A promotional webpage on the retailer's site that includes your photos, news, bio, reviews, fan feedback, links, blog, samples, etc.
Moveable store - A window that has your song titles listed with checkboxes. Fans can check off the songs they want and click buy. It becomes a direct buy link. This window can be put anywhere on your personal website or on sites like myspace.
Distribution - Your songs are made available to other retailers, distributors, music users and promotional people for selling or promoting.
On demand - A CD or singles are created only when a customer asks for them. The albums are mailed CDR's or downloads to the customer.
Upload - High quality (high sample rate) MP3's are sent to the retail site by you for sale and downloading by fans. Low quality MP3's are sent to the retail site to be used as samples for previewing your music.
Inventory - The retailer asks for 5 to 10 CD's and warehouses them until needed. When the stock is low the retailer will email you for more.
Product - The thing you can get from the site. (A) physical = an actual CD mailed to you, (B) none = promotion and exposure only, (C) download = MP3 file you download to your computer.
Store page - A page on the retailer's site that has a window with check boxes for customers to choose your songs to buy.
Previews - Samples of your songs people can listen to without buying.
Samples - short MP3's of your songs that you have uploaded to the site. Their length can be 30 seconds to the full song depending on site requirements.
Networking - other musicians and fans can rate your songs and communicate with you on the site. There are links to social sites like Facebook and Twitter.
